G Sandells (1885 – 1917)

George Aaron Sandells was born in Birkenhead. He was the son of George Sandells, a general labourer, and his wife, Kate. By 1901 the family had moved to Bridgnorth where they lived in St John Street and, later, Bernard’s Hill. After leaving school, George worked as an agricultural labourer

George Sandells served with the 7th Battalion King’s Shropshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 9th April, 1917, the first day of the Battle of the Scarpe. He is buried in Tilloy British Cemetery.

Private Sandells, 22254, was awarded the Victory and British medals.
