Arthur Victor Upperdine

Arthur Victor Thomas Upperdine was born at Brewood in 1897. He was baptised at SS Mary & Chad, Brewood, on 20th June, the son of Arthur, a farm labourer, and Alice. In 1901 and 1911 the family were living at Mount Pleasant, Coven.

Arthur was called up in autumn 1916. He served with the 2/5th South Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 26th September, 1917, during the Battle of Polygon Wood (part of the Third Battles of the Ypres). He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.

Arthur V T Upperdine, 36990, was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.
