Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
The Grammar School memorial lists '2nd Lt. M Jones, Worc. R., 1917'. The only matching entry on the Commonwealth Graves database is Second Lieutenant Joseph Maurice Jones.
Joseph Maurice Jones was killed in action in Mesopotamia on 15th February, 1917. He is buried in the Amara War Cemetery (now Iraq). He was serving with the 6th Battalion Worcestershire Regiment attached to the 9th Battalion.
At the time of his death, Joseph Maurice Jones' home address was 'The Hollies', Norton nr. Stourbridge.
Second Lieutenant Jones' medal card is blank except for his name and the date of his death. He would have been entitled to the Victory and British medals.
This memorial has mostly been compiled from official sources. It would be good to be able to expand it with more personal material - memories, stories, photos, etc. If you have any suitable material or any corrections please contact Greg. For news of updates follow @BridgnorthHeros on Twitter.
