Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
Arthur Cornwall Legh was the brother-in-law of Edith Legh (the daughter of Henry Cavendish of Chyknell). He was born in Dover in 1872, the son of Richard Cornwall Legh, Auditor General in Malta, and his wife Thomasine.
Before the war, Arthur had worked as a clerk at the Bank of England, before becoming Chief Clerk to the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1907. Nothing is yet known of his role at the War Office.
Arthur married Harriet Beatrice Lucy Jones on 14th December, 1895. He died on 12th November, 1917 at Lower Swanick, Southampton, Hampshire. He was buried at St Mary, Rostherne, Cheshire (close to the family home at High Legh Hall).
This memorial has mostly been compiled from official sources. It would be good to be able to expand it with more personal material - memories, stories, photos, etc. If you have any suitable material or any corrections please contact Greg. For news of updates follow @BridgnorthHeros on Twitter.
