Private William Gibbs of the 177th Company, Machine Gun Corps was living in Highley when he enlisted. He was born in Swindon, Wiltshire.
He was killed in action on 26th September, 1917 on which day his division took part in the Battle of Polygon Wood (part of the Third Battles of Ypres, 1917).
Private William Gibbs, 57865 MGC (formerly 25073 KSLI) is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial. He was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.
