Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
When he enlisted, Charles Henry Smith gave his birthplace as Bewdley. He was the son of Mr J. Smith of 19, Clee View, Highley.
Charles served with the 1st Battalion King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He died of wounds on 19th April, 1917. At this time the 1st KSLI were in trenches near Loos. Charles may have been one of the twenty-five 'other ranks' who were wounded when the Ist KSLI attacked the German lines on 18th. He is buried in Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe, France.
Private Charles Smith, 18728 KSLI, was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.
