Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
William Henry Joseph Barber-Starkey was born at Huttons Ambo, Yorkshire on 4th March, 1880. He was the son of William Joseph Starkey Barber-Starkey of Aldenham Park and his wife Margaret Aimeé.
William was educated at Harrow and Trinity College, Cambridge. He became a professional soldier, serving in the Royal Artillery.
Captain Barber-Starkey went to France on 17th August, 1914. He was wounded on 26th August at the Battle of Le Cateau while serving with 52nd Battery RFA. He died of his wounds at a German Field Hospital on 10th September. He is buried at Le Cateau Communal Cemetery.
