Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
Bertram Thomas Sargeant was born at Stockton in 1896. He was the son of William Sargeant, a labourer, and his wife Louisa. In 1911 the family lived in Cheswardine Lane, Norton and fourteen-year-old Bertam was working as a farm boy.
Bertram served with the 8th Battalion Devonshire Regiment. He went to France with his battalion in July 1915. He was killed in action on 25th September, 1915, the opening day of the Battle of Loos. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
Private Bertram Sargeant, 10783, Devonshire Regiment, was awarded the Victory and British War Medals.
