Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.

R'F'M H F Dove (1889 - 1917)

Harold Francis Arthur Dove BA was the son of Arthur Henry Dove, a civil servant in the Naval Ordinance Department, and his wife Rose. Harold was born in Hampshire and was educated at University College, Reading. He moved to Bridgnorth where he worked as a master at the Grammar School.

Harold attested for military service on 10th December, 1915, shortly before he married Alice Marion Ward at All Saints, Forest Gate, London on 24th December. He was called up in May and - despite suffering from poor eyesight - became a member of the King's Royal Rifle Corps. He was later transferred to the 13th Battalion Rifle Brigade. Harold was with his battalion in the field from 21st November, 1916 until he was killed in action (probably during the second Battle of the Scarpe during the Arras Offensive) on 23rd April, 1917.

Rifleman Dove, s/27123, is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
