Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
George Davies was born in Bridgnorth. He enlisted at Market Drayton, joining the 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. He was killed in action on 12th October 1916, probably during the Battle of Le Transloy at the end of the Somme 1916 campaign. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
Private George Davies, 37064, 2nd Lancashire Fusiliers, was awarded the Victory and British Medals.
BRIDGNORTH MAN MISSING [Bridgnorth Journal 18th November, 1916] Mrs Davies, of 18 Bernard’s Hill, has received official information that her son, Private George Davies, Lancashire Fusiliers, is reported missing since October 21st [sic].
