Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the Bridgnorth area who died during the two World Wars.
It seems likely that this inscription on the Ditton Priors War Memorial is intended to commemorate the Frederick William Jones who was born at Worfield in 1884 and who was also known as William Frederick Jones. I have not yet been able to positively connect this man to Ditton Priors.
Hugh Bryan (in The Fallen Heroes) points out that William Frederick's serial number is one before that of Henry Parton who is probably the H. Parton commemorated at Ditton Priors.
Shropshire's Sacrifice in the Great War also links the Ditton Priors W. Jones with Worfield born William Frederick.
While William Frederick remains the most likely intention, I have not been able to rule out Wallace Blake Jones a son of the Head Teacher of the nearby Brockton School who is commemorated by a plaque at Stanton Long Parish Church.
This memorial has mostly been compiled from official sources. It would be good to be able to expand it with more personal material - memories, stories, photos, etc. If you have any suitable material or any corrections please contact Greg. For news of updates follow @BridgnorthHeros on Twitter.
