Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the South Staffordshire area who died during the two World Wars.
Flight Sergeant John Simmons Smith, 1232252, RAFVR 248 Sqdn, was 22 when he died on 3rd September 1943. He was the son of Frederick Cecil Smith and Ethel Smith of Brocton. John had been chief assistant librarian at Heath Town Library before joining up.
John went missing while on an operational flight; he was presumed drowned. He is commemorated on panel 139 of the Runneymede Memorial.
