Dedicated to the memory of all the men and women of the South Staffordshire area who died during the two World Wars.
No one of this name appears to have been born or living in Brewood during the late 19th or early 20th century. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists 427 John Bell casualties of World War 1. None has an obvious link to the village.
This name appears on the war memorial in St Mary's Catholic Church, Brewood. It has been suggested that John Bell is the man named on another Brewood memorial as John Bill but this seems unlikely as the latter is known to have attended the Wesleyan Chapel.
As with several other names on the St Mary's memorial, John Bell may have been related to a member of the church congregation and may have had no personal connection with the village.
This memorial has mostly been compiled from official sources. It would be good to be able to expand it with more personal material - memories, stories, photos, etc. If you have any suitable material or any corrections please contact Greg.
